You have a few choices.

First, you can backup using the CD-RW drive, which, although tedious, you
mostly only have to do once (if you do it right).  Since your applications
don't change (except when you install new things), back those up to one set
of CDs.  Back-up your OS portion to another set.  Back-up your documents and
other highly changeable stuff to a third set.  You'd have to check, but
Retrospect probably supports your drive, then you can just do incremental
backups.

Second, get a big enough external hard drive and just set a Finder copy
going overnight.  Although more expensive than CD-RWs, this is superior if
(Heaven forbid) your entire iBook drive goes belly-up, you can restore it
w/o having to shuffle through 20 CDs.
