I have been playing around with a few Wi Fi Access Points recently. Netgear ME102 will work without encryption but will not see my appletlak printer (reject!) A lot of Wi Fi Access Points / PC cards don't work very well with Macs. AirPort Base Station is the Easiest but most expensive. I opened up my AirPort to see what is in it. It is just an Orinoco RG-1000 with different firmware flashed in it. There is even a Orinoco Silver card in it. The Orinoco Access Points works with Macs once it is set up but needs a PC to configure. Orinoco PC cards works very well with Macs & AirPort software
You can get the RG-1000 in a Complet kit for $210.00 that includes an external Silver card. http://store.yahoo.com/justdeals/luctecorrgre.html http://store.yahoo.com/justdeals/luctecorsil1.html http://168.55.19.4/wavelan.htm Personally I am now using a RG-1100 which has no modem but comes with a Gold card in it. $180.00 (with shipping) at theNerds.net http://www.thenerds.net/productpage.asp?pn=048978 http://shopper.cnet.com/shopping/resellers/0-7085-311-6632196.html?tag=st.sh.sr. mp.pr6632196 To get the Airport Software to work on a 2400c and a Orinoco PC card Use TomeVeiwer to extract the Airport Card Extensions / Control Strip. Then put them in your Extensions Folder / Control Strip Folder Restart the 2400c with the Orinoco PC card in it. The card will show up as an Airport card. This only works with the Orinoco PC cards http://www.versiontracker.com/redir.fcgi/kind=1&db=&id=4561/tomeviewer-13d3.sit http://www.macupdate.com/download.php/AirPort_1.3.1.smi.bin?id=4614 http://www.Orinocowireless.com/template.html?section=m52&envelope=90&page=2941 Wireless is great. I have two 2400c's that I can take anywhere in my house now that has access to the internet and printer. I am now going to try the Orinoco software on my 2400c just to see the difference. The PC Orinoco Access Point interface is a lot more clonky but has more options. ed >I'm expecting my new 2400 to arrive shortly. It has been CardBus >enabled by MCE.
