Friends:
What is the best way to get audio out of a Duo 2300? I want to use
the 2300 as a kitchen MP-3 player.
I recently acquired a heavily used Duo 2300c to supplement my
venerable 280c. Originally, I had plans to use it as a print server
for my iMac running OS X, but I monkeyed up a scheme to print from my
SE/30, so now the 2300 is available. (By the way, the 2300 has
several hardware problems that I might ask about in another post, but
is generally functional.)
Since it will not be serving print jobs, I tried to think of another
use for my new toy. It occurred to me that, with the 1-GB hard drive
and 100-MHz PowerPC 603e chip, I could use the 2300 to play MP-3
songs in my kitchen. However, the 2300 lacks anything I can identify
as an audio-out port. Does anyone have any suggestions?
The 2300 has a modem/printer serial port, a built-in modem, and the
Duo dock connector. I have a Newer SCSI MicroDock that adds SCSI and
ADB connectors. Can any of these be tricked into providing audio out
(at a reasonable price)? I also have a full-sized dock, but that
would hardly be elegant in the kitchen. :-)
Let me know if you have any clever ideas!
Best wishes,
Clint
