Ok, so this isn't the best forum, but we do have folks with a wide range of skills...so I'm going to ask here first.
My wife is a court reporter whose edit software only runs under windows, NT preferred. We need a new laptop. We've used Toshibas for the last six years(two machines). I hear circumstantial evidence that their quality has dropped off, but then again, they seem to be one of the more popular machines on CNet, and certain mailorder sites. We use to use Dels at work, but now use Compaqs(Armadas I think)....3000+ machines. So the question is....does anyone have any good evidence or web links to reviews that would suggest one brand/model is more durable than another? If you work in a professional IT environment and have done any hard RFP comparisons I'd love to hear your findings. I'm more concerned about durability and longevity than performance. Minimum requirements: Celeron 800MHz, 10-20GB HD, CD, floppy drive, port replicator capability. Then again prices are getting so low, I'm tempted to just buy a $1000 special and not worry about it. ;-) Thoughts?
