This is interesting. I seem to have encountered distortions of the
color on the screen after lost power was the result of a restart. Next
time it does that, try hitting the Brightness control buttons, and tell
me if they come up with a Contrast control instead... I've found that
to be a bug whose presence can be relied upon with my 2300c. A simple
reboot usually solves the problem.

My guess would be your battery is simply dead. I think there are some
places you can send it to be refurbished (sp?), if you really think it's
worth the expense. Otherwise, you can probably spring $10-20 for a
used-but-functional one on eBay.
