I still need help getting my desktop to appear completely on my PB2400/180MHz/80Mb/6Gb/OS8.6. Any further advice would be appreciated.
Symptom: Startup stalls after the HD appears on the desktop. Trash doesn't appear, neither does the control strip. Mouse moves, but nothing is clickable. Three-finger reboot necessary. Lead-in: Using an external HD (via PC card interface), I transferred some 20,000 files (2.9Gb) to the PB bringing the HD capacity to 3.7Gb out of 6Gb. Tried to no avail: zapping PRAM, desktop rebuild including via TechTool, Norton Disk Tools, DiskWarrior directory rebuild, Clean Install. What does work: Everything was fine before the file transfers -- eliminating extension conflicts as a culprit. Full startup including access all 3.7Gb if I startup with extensions off. I've erased the transferred files from the PB, and the files appear on the desktop from the external HD. So the PB can handle the files if they're on the external HD but not when they're on the PB's HD. Is this a HD problem?
