Before you go snipping and cutting, throw the appropriate extension (I used "FireWire 2 Go Enabler" since I have a firewire 2 go card) into your extensions folder just to verify that your comet doesn't already support cardbus.
I'm no circuit junky, but from what I've read, all those yellow wires do is "delay" the PB long enough from identifying the cardbus cards, so that it in fact times out and doesn't recognize it. I wouldn't do the "upgrade" unless you had a more powerful CPU in the system, however, since most firewire hardware says the minimum requirement is a G3/233. I could be wrong though, cardbus could work just fine on the stock 180... ? Anyway, my PB seems to be running fine after I snipped the wires (although if you snip yours and something goes wrong, don't blame me.) I don't have one of those fancy smancy apple dvd - zoomed video cards (although I am trying to locate one,) but I would assume it would still work fine since snipping the wires doesn't seem to have any effect on 16 bit cards. > And: Is it possible to enable just one of the PC card slots by cutting one wire, leaving the other slot untouched ? Well, there are two wires, and nothing is stopping you from cutting just one, right? =) If I remember correctly, the longer one is the upper bay, and shorter the lower bay. If you try cutting only one, please let me know how it works out. And again, if anything goes wrong, don't blame me. I didn't force you to do anything. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Hanns Rdiger Rttgers" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Duo/2400 List" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Wednesday, November 28, 2001 1:59 AM Subject: [Duo2400] 2400 CardBus Enabling: Just cut the wires ??? Having read the different internet-available instructions and the commentaries on this list, I believe that all I have to do to enable the CardBus on the 2400 mainboard version with two yellow jumper wires to cut those wires and everything will be okay ?! Before doing that: Is that really true and has someone tried to use the Zoomed video input after the procedure ? And: Is it possible to enable just one of the PC card slots by cutting one wire, leaving the other slot untouched ? Thanks for all helpful hints to a newcomer !
