Just a note of what I did to my duo today.... I recently heard a rattle inside my duo 280c when shaking it. Upon taking it apart to figured out what was making the noise I discovered that the LCD display's threaded brass screw gussets had broken. Not an unusual situation with the Duo, particularly for mine that gets opened and closed several times a day. Anyway, I repaired the broken gussets with JB-Weld and figure they are probably nearly as good as new (we'll see). But it seemed that it might be a good idea if the clutch tension could be reduced so that there was less force acting upon the hardware when opening and closing the display. Through experimentation I discovered that putting a small shim under the clutch/hinge spring will do exactly what I was looking for. One shim under each spring (left side and right side) was not quite enough to satisfy me. Two shims was just a bit too much...made the screen too loose. So I ended up with one shim under the left side and two under the right side and it feels much better. The screen will still stand open but does not have any more clutch friction than needed, and thus less strain on the fastening hardware. Also, upon disassembling the duo I discovered that my "one year old" PRAM battery is leaking brown stuff. I bought it on eBay but it came in a package which appeared to be genuine Apple replacement battery.
