My 2400 died again with click-of-death symptoms last week. The last time this happened I was able to (apparently) track the problem down to a faulty or damaged CPU daughterboard connector, which I fixed by replacing the entire CPU daughterboard (with a spare one provided by a kind ex-Duolister).
This time the starting symptoms seemed a bit different, and the CPU board seems ok (tough as it is to tell). However, I now find that one pin of the I/O daughterboard connector has become damaged - broken off partway on the main logic board side. What I'd like to decide in the immediate term is whether this pin and connector could be causing the failure to boot (click of death) on its own, or whether it represents something more esoteric like part of a port connector (or nothing at all). The failure to boot may have another cause entirely, particularly since this isn't the first time (for this 2400 or others). So the question is, does anyone know what pin 125 of the I/O board connector is for? I'm rather short of computing resources without the 2400, so it's difficult for me to check the service manual PDFs, assuming they even have the info. Also, would anyone happen to have a spare main logic board from a 2400 dead in some other fashion? Assuming that's what turns out to be the problem here. I'm obviously not planning on investing a great deal more money into this machine, but there may be something more financially feasible I can do other than simply buying an iBook. -- Marc Sira | [EMAIL PROTECTED] If you can't play with words, what good are they? ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net!
