I have a 2300 with 20 mb RAM and a 1.1 gb HD, running os 8.5. I've been
carefully stripping down the control panels and extensions to speed up the
machine, but it still uses about 12 mb RAM when I check it under "About
this computer" in the finder. According to previous comments in the list,
os 8.1 or 7.6.1 are better candidates for RAM challenged 2300s. How do I
safely downgrade my operating system? Are there any control panels or
extensions for 8.5 that I could use with earlier os's? Another reason for
wanting to downgrade: I want to use a RAM disk for speed and battery
conservation. Would use of a RAM disk have an impact on the optimal os for
this book?
I've been reading archived messages for this list and have been very
impressed with the tone of the conversation and the level of expertise
shared.
