Unless there's some need for some PPC-only software, I'd stick with the 
280. Even with relatively heavy things like web surfing and the like, I 
don't notice much difference between the 280c and 2300c I have. And, I'd 
say the 280c just "feels" faster in the Finder, launching apps, etc.

But, MacOS 8.6/9.1 can be run on the 2300c (though I'd want more than 32 
megs of RAM for it), which some people can't do without :)
