I haven't been following the prices on ebay lately, but I bought 3 2300s
on ebay last fall. In my experience, you can buy a basic 2300 for
around $150.00. I paid exactly that with the configuration you
described. Of course, it cost almost 20.00 in shipping.

Without any question, the single most expensive item for the 2300 is
RAM. If you can find a 48mb module used, it'll cost you $100.00 by
itself. So when you look at 2300s on ebay, you have to look at the
memory installed. Also, a mini dock will add money, if it's the right
one, I paid $250.00 for a 2300 with both 56mb and a Newer
Ultradock16sce. This was my biggest mistake, you can buy a whole system
much cheaper than you can each of these component parts.

You're going to have to decide whether you really want the upgrade. In
my case, my wife wanted a super small computer to use at college for
note taking and my daughter wanted a small one as well for her room. We
were buying these computers for the first time, so I elected to go for
the 2300. If I had a 280 already, I'm not sure it would justify the
upgrade. If if were me, in your shoes, I'd be tempted to save for
something else. I have a Wallstreet, which in my estimation, is a
really fine machine. You can buy them for around 650.00.

As others have noted there are two major advantages for the 2300. One
is the larger screen and the other is the power pc processor. you just
have to decide how important that it to you. My daughter really wanted
a laptop that would run Starry Night, to take out to the yard. Starry
Night (at least the current release) requires a powerpc. I'm running
System 9 on my 2300 without any trouble.
