Stephen, the PRAM batteries used in both the duo series and the 2400 are standard rechargeable 3,6v NIMH 3-cell units (with a .lifetime of about 5 years) that get recharged from the AC source (be it the power adapter, or a dock of sorts) and AFAIK also from the main battery when the book is unplugged. Of course a PRAM battery will be drained when there is no other power source present, because then it serves to retain the PRAM data - that's what it's there for!
