I can't help with the trackpad cable, but you can put any capacity 2.5" 
drive you can find in the 2300. I haven't heard of it being done, but I 
would expect a 48GB IBM drive to work just fine in the 2300. (except 
maybe some heat issues, but even then.)

A note of caution, however: The 2.5" HDD larger than, say, 1.1GB often 
have their mounting screws located in the wrong place to allow the use 
of the stock Duo brackets. If you have a 12.5mm (I think) or thinner 
drive, you can purchase an adapter set, but (because I had a 17mm drive) 
I simply used plastic zip-ties to lash the brackets to the drive. It 
wasn't pretty, but it worked flawlessly. There is a picture on my page 
showing the drive in the Duo with the case off. (The picture is at the
