Hello all, I have used 2400's for a while, and have 10 of them, of which 5 are in more or less constant use, and 5 don't work. (BTW, I need more parts machines! ;-) )
I'm not a GLOD expert, although I have seen it plenty of times. I believe the power supply can be a major culprit, and result in burnt fuses, or bad power manager boards. However, most GLOD problems seem to due to the motherboard, which is, unfortunately, the most expensive part. I have seen a situation where the CPU board was bad or unseated, and reseating made the CPU start up. Of course, you have to reassemble the whole damn thing to test it. WE WOULD ALL BENEFIT, I think, if some experienced tech would get on here and extemporize about the kinds of GLOD-causing problems he has seen. Finally, here is a MAJOR tip: DT&T's advice was to "never use sleep". Since it is unacceptable to me to wait three minutes every time I want to use a computer, this got me to thinking... A big problem with frying MB's has been closing the lid for sleep; sometimes it doesn't really sleep and just gets very hot, particularly in a carrying bag. Then I learned an important secret: COMMAND-SHIFT-ZERO puts macs to sleep. Then close the lid. Since I started using that, I've never pulled a hot powerbook out of my bag.
