The die hard core of users/enthusiasts (us) that think the 2400, despite its
age, is the most versatile and long lived computer ever made!!! Just
small/light enough to go everywhere, with the first of the really good
screens, decent L-ion battery, cardbus, SCSI, USB, Firewire, ADB, serial,
PCMCIA Type3, IrDA, Ethernet 10/100, Airport, external monitor direct & via
PCMCIA, video, PC HD, ATA, CF, SM, memory stick, microdrive etc. etc. etc.

GLOD is fairly common. I speculate GLOD is more prone to occur with weak(er)
PRAM batteries that still work. Some of my 2400s are more stable than
others--yet the PRAM batteries in all of them live on. Possibly a lower
voltage might contribute to PM corruption.

The other reason is that the 2400 is built modular, with a CPU daughterboard
and lower power requirements. This means it exhibits signs of life, even
when crippled (by, say, a bad CPU). Conversely, when a 3400-3500-G3WS-
Lombard-Pismo-Ti-iBook etc. die, typically it's dead (and appears terminally
dead). That means a trip to Apple repair or other techs. Apart from
WS-Pismo, CPUs are permanently attached and not user replaceable.

The older 1400s have lousy screens, slow bus, Nubus guts, poor batteries and
severe ram limitations. Even a 1400-603/166 is very slow compared to a
2400-603/180.

Then there is the (reverse) cool factor. Many (PC, Mac, PC&Mac users) have
marveled at the 2400--that it is so versatile, "old" and "unknown". And
there is the ergonomic factor-its rounded edges, size, and "cuddliness"
allow pleasurable use everywhere, in many positions, plus it's already
"ruggedized". One of my 2400s fell from my (overloaded) shoulder bag with a
3-sided zipper (that accidentally unzipped) onto pavement--and works
perfectly to this day.

In short, you may hear more about 2400 problems but many of us who work with
them seem to have accumulated multiple units and tenaciously keep them
going. So, we can collectively help you to repair your 2400, or it should go
out whole and get its "resurrection" elsewhere.
