The Duos and 2400s both use 36w adapters. Technically, the 2400 puts out a bit more juice than the 2300, which puts out more than the one that came with the 280, etc.... The Duo or 2400 adapters will work fine with your 1400, but they won't charge the battery while the machine is running. I am not sure if they will charge it if it is just plugged in and turned off. My guessis yes, though.
