When the silver was foully inserted into a laptop from Dell, it would not
take an IP address from the 3com DHCP server until it was manually forced to
do so. When returned to its rightful position inside the pure and lovely
2400c it received the same default IP address the dellish laptop first
assumed. Alas! the 2400 lacks a button to manually refresh its DHCP address.
What will our Apple adventurers do next...
Suggestions?

Try this:
In the TCP/IP control panel, switch to "manual" address; enter a bogus
address and close the control panel, saving your settings; then open and
switch back to "DHCP", save your settings again and it should give you a new
address, give or take a re-start or two. :-)
