Carlos and others have spoken eloquently about their love for and desire to
keep their 2400's going and going. Sometimes it is love, sometimes it is
practical, usually it is a combination, but money always enters the
picture. Otherwise, we'd justs file our numbers with Apple and have them
send us a new one of each whenever they came out.

I am planning a year or three in Asia teaching. I have a 1400c, a 2400c
almost ready to go together, and a hankering to own a new iBook.

Since I will have to travel very light a CD may well end up as my music
station, and a DVD might even be my visual entertainment.

Small is wonderful, it is almost everything, but not quite. Light weight is
exceedingly good, but money eventually trumps them both.

I can load a lot of music on the HD of the 2400c (20 GB), but I am not sure
I can live without that CD. I have a Sony Diskman I bought to use with my
520c, but it is getting old and not totally trustworthy. Are there still
good external CD drives available that are old Mac adaptable?

I have a docking station for the 2400c. I thought of taking it and a PC/Mac
display adapter with a keyboard and mouse. Then, if I could borrow or buy
an old PC or Mac monitor over there, I could have many of the advantages of
a desktop or a larger screened PowerBook

I like the old 1400c. It is farily small, with built in CD (I even have a
spare). If I got a G3 processor upgrade, it would be quite fast, a lot
faster than the smaller 2400c. On the other hand, I don't need nearly as
much speed as some.

Adding a feature here and there I can upgrade the 1400c to nearly iBook
specs at 1/3 to 1/2 the price, and while it is not nearly as sexy or
wondrous as the 2400, it might be the better solution.

Batteries are very important. When available a battery for the 2400c would
cost aboutt 3 times as much as a new one for the 1400c. But, per buck, the
1400c batteries would last longer. The 1400 batteries are plentiful.

Maybe I better find money for that a iBook!
