I've been wondering why everyone grumbles about the missing PC Card slot on
the iBook. In the past they were needed for modems, ethernet, USB and
FireWire. Now that's all built in.

I used to use a PC card adapter for my cameras SmartMedia card on my old
PowerBook. Now I just plug the camera into the USB port. And if you can't
plug your camera in then buy a USB media adapter for $20.

While the Digigram PC card is very cool, I would think a person would rather
do high end audio on a G4, and the Ti'Book has a PC card slot.

As for that very cool Type II PC card hard drive, I would take the $470
(MSRP) for the 5 GIG model and maybe buy two 30GB drives, put one in a
FireWire enclosure, the other in my iBook. Then I would take the change and
buy some DVDs to watch on my iBook.

I think the PB2400 is has been a very cool PowerBook and way ahead of it's
time. But the new iBook has so many great features going for it. I've been
very happy with mine and I have yet to miss the PC Card slot. Plus I have a
built-in DVD-CDRW, video out, AV out, FireWire & USB. Even better, a battery
that realistically gives me 3 hours of use (4 or more if I try) and costs
$130 for another one. So I don't have a bag full of accessories and cables
to keep track of.

BTW, I was lucky enough to get mine at Circuit City when the were clearing
them out. I picked up a demo 500MHz/128/10/combo (DVD/CD-RW) for just $850.
I got an AirPort card a week later at CC for $49. I just got a Linksys WAP11
for $135 at amazon.com (shipped free). Now I roam the house checking mail,
surfing, watching movies and teasing my sons who are stuck at their desks
glaring at me :^)

But I still have my beloved Duo280c (overclocked to 37.5MHz by Mad Dog) as
well as a couple 230s, a few PB5300s, a 190, a 180 and...well...some others.
So even I don't want to let go of the past just yet!

Gee, I know some hard core 2400 lovers are gonna flame me but I guess I've
grown tired of hearing that the new iBook just doesn't live up to the
standards set by the 2400. But that's OK.
