""Excerpt""
According to Francis Boisvert, founder of MacTokyo, an English-language Mac
user group, people will spend up to $25,000 to customize their machines.
Boisvert said transparent cases are a popular option. Each part has to be
made individually, often by denture manufacturers, which have expertise in
creating custom-molded, transparent plastics.
"They'll spend $10,000 on see-through keyboards, battery covers, lids or
other parts," he said. "A lot of people do it one piece at a time. It can
add up to $25,000, easy."
To save money, groups of PowerBook owners will band together to get volume
discounts.
