Put both on your 2400

Definitely PARTITION your drive and install OS 8.6 & 9.1 on two different
partitions since you are going to reinitialize the HD. This gives you the
option of going between the two and avoiding some of 9.1's
quirks/incompatibilities, as well as additional repair/safety margin
