I really don't want to speculate on the number of Tempest shielded Mac's out there.
Especially if Owen Linzmayer says that *he* has never heard of one. I suggest that
the author try to get in touch with someone at Lawrence Livermore and see if he can
get an answer. The Mac's I saw out there were "metallic silvery" looking. They were
in a climate controlled room and I was only able to see them through the windows of
the room (the windows had imbedded wire, but the view was clear). I asked my contact
there and he told me they were Tempest Shielded Macs. That's all I can say as I
wasn't allowed access to that room. There were a number of them. Having been to the
Weird Stuff Warehouse many times, I find it hard to believe that such a "rare mac"
would just be sitting on a pallet and was open for a purchase for $5. Even so, if
one landed at Weird Stuff then maybe more are floating around. The problem with the
situation is that they were most certainly used by top-secret agencies and were most
likely destroyed after they ran their course, so that in itself would limit the
number of them in existence today. There are a lot of prototype Macs out there. For
example I had never seen one of these until a few days ago....and I used to work at
Apple:
