First, thanks to Marc for correcting me....I should have said "210/230 Duos"
are passive LCD. The technology used in the 250/270 screens are older twist
plane technology, not as fast as what is used in the 280 (and that was about
the time I switched from R&D to managing our affiliates, and so can't
remember the difference between the two...anyone remember/care about the
difference??). The important thing is that there are differences in the
method of driving each LCD....and only the 2300 logic board can drive any of
them, the previous models can only drive the same style display as it came
with originally.

Donald, one suggestion would be to find a display off of a Duo 280 (the mono
screen). This will give good video performance as well as a clear display
using reflective light (the color screens use transmissive light...i.e. light
pushed thru the screen instead of reflected off the liquid crystal
itself...color reflective displays are available but not as popular as
supertwist active pixel transmissive displays). You should be able to easily
see the screen even on the brightest day (my old unit got used on the beach
alot). One note....you will be limited on pixel depth, which is 256 greys,
IIRC. Older units were limited to 16 greys......if anyone on list has a mono
280....please check this for me, believe I'm right but don't want to mislead
anyone. Installation is "plug and play" by removing the color display and
mounting the mono screen. Make sure you are getting the entire upper frame
and screen, not just the screen itself, as the cable will be different (on
the display end, not the computer end) and it is alot easier just to swap the
upper section instead of components. Keep the old color display for future
use or sell it to recoup the cost of conversion. BTW, a mono screen should
be quite inexpensive, and mounted on the 2300 will allow use of PPC only
software. If the software will run under System 7, find a cheap 280 mono and
use it. It will run faster under Sys 7.X than the 2300 under OS8. Just
avoid Sys 7.5.X except for 7.5.3, which seemed to fix most of the bugs. 7.6
is good, too.

Andrew
