I'll take your responses to mean that no, I can't use the iMac as a 
monitor to the dock, though I assumed as much at first.

Thanks for the offer, but actually I'm across the ocean in Canada.  =)

Yes, one of the docks has Ethernet through an installed NuBus card. 
What I'm wondering though, is if I turn on the appropriate networking 
while the Duo is undocked, dock it, and look for the Duo in the 
Network Browser (OS 9.2), will it show up even if I don't have a 
monitor/keyboard/mouse plugged in to the dock?  Or is the monitor a 
prerequisite for the duo in the dock to work at all?

For $ and space reasons, I'd like to not have to get a monitor to add 
to the mix.
