I just booted up my sad Duo 2300 with an external floppy drive that I won from ebaym and a boot floppy that I had downloaded from Gamba; some progress!! I ran disk first aide and found no problems. However Norton Disk Doctor displayed the following messages, and I need some advice here. 1. "An error was found in the disk media...The disk media could not be fixed."--Does this mean that I need a new hard drive? Would initializing the drive clear up the problem?
2. "The following files have damaged resource forks and may not be functioning properly. Frank's Duo: System Folder:System. If you are having trouble with these files replace them with a backup copy." Do I need to reinstall the System in the System Folder? The computer came with 8.5 but I don't have that OS on a CD. However, I have 8.1. Can I install an OS through filesharing? I have an Asante Micro EN/SC, but have had no consistent luck sharing with ethernet. But I do have a handy serial cable and have used it to share other files between my 6100 and the Duo. A related question: if reinitializing the disk will solve my probles, how do I install a new system on the duo--I don't have an external CD drive, though I do have a SCSI Disk Mode cable for the Duo. I'm crashing tonight but will check the lists in the morning. Thanks for the help (especially Scott) up to this point. Frank C. Modica 501 E.
