Probably don't need a new HD. But it does sound as if there's (perhaps) a bad block. By Murphy's Law, it fell right smack in your System file. So, yes, you'll need to reinstall the OS. Personally, I've never tried to install an OS over filesharing, both because I've never had the need to and because I figure it'll be ten times slower than from a CD or Hard drive. The other issue is: Do you have all the necessary stuff on the boot floppy to turn do networking from the Duo?? Lastly, if the 2300 has an IDE drive, will it still work in "SCSI Disk" Mode?? If you can get the Duo to work in that mode, then that's probably going to be the best way to handle things. Otherwise, I think the 8.1 CD has provision for making an install floppy series. In any event, IMHO, it would be a good idea to 'slick' the HD and start from scratch at this point. That includes completely reformatting, with mapping out of bad blocks. Of course, this may just be an 'opportunity' to get yourself a bigger HD... ;-) - Eric. -- Eric Strobel (fyzycyst@NOSPAM^mailaps.org) ===================================================================== I'm always forgetting that I have short term memory loss... ===================================================================== ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net!
