I've played a lot with 7.1, 7.5 and 7.6 recently to see what was the best OS
for my Duos. I'd say that it all depends on your RAM and HD size of course
but if your drive and RAM can take it, use version 7.6.1 as opposed to
7.5.3. Also, I tried 8.0 and 8.1 on the 280c, but they were too slow for my
own liking.

So regardless of the processor and without using RAM Doubler 2 in the
equation, I've decided that:

- Option 1: RAM < 12Mb & HD < 160 = 7.1

- Option 2: RAM < 20Mb & HD < 240 = 7.5.3

- Option 3: RAM > 20Mb & HD > 240 = 7.6.1

and I use a few add-ons released after 7.6.1 such as the Appearance Manager
to get Copland icons, OT 1.1.2 and OT/PPP 1.0.1, AppleShare 3.8.3 and I
reverted to Apple CD-ROM 5.3.1 instead of 5.3.3 to use my Yamaha 4416.

There is not much between options 2 & 3, and you could definitely run 7.6.1
with option 2 specs but the memory required by 7.6 is significantly higher
than with 7.5. The difference between the two is also quite noticeable in
terms of internet connectivity. Try setting up a dial-up connection with Mac
TCP 2.0.6 and then Open Transport 1.1.2, and see the difference! Also, OT
enables you to run Hotline, Carracho and other programs who need OT.

Finally, some applications I have will not run on OS before 7.6, even with
extras like CFM-68K, drag lib, etc.
