For word processing I am using Nisus Compact, which is free from
Nisus at <http://www.nisus.com> The program itself takes up less
than 700KB and the entire folder takes up 1.7MB. I find that it has
more than enough features for letters and reports. Nisus also offers
a free download of an older version of their full-featured word
processor.
Summary of Nisus Compact features (from article in Nisus Compact
folder) are as follows:
Compatibility * With the appropriate XTND or MacLink Plus
file translators (not provided), you
can read and write to many popular formats including Microsoft� Word
and RTF.
(Press OPTION as you choose Open from the File menu.)
Fluid Graphics * Paste graphics as characters (by default) or
on a separate graphic layer (use
control key) to move with text or fix to page position.
File Clerk * Organize, categorize
and retrieve all your files, no matter which application
created them, from within your word processor.
Unlimited Undos * Write with the freedom to undo all your
mistakes, saved or not, all the way back
to opening the document.
Fuzzy Find * Find approximate
sound-alike matches quickly and easily.
Versatile Clipboard * Edit and append selected text on the clipboard.
Electronic Book Marks * Jump to preset locations in your document.
Precision Find * Find and/or replace any font, size, style or
user style.
Battery Level and * Keep an eye on power and time without
accessing the
Clock Display hard disk and wasting battery power.
Thick I-beam * Adjust the width of the on-screen I-beam and
insertion point for easy viewing.
Text Editing Tools * Select a column of text using
Rectangular Selection.
Formatting Tools * Select separated text using
Non-Contiguous Selection.
Include headers, footers and
footnotes in your documents.
