I have 2 2300c's in which I've tried 3 internal modems - 2 GV Mercury 19.2's and one Apple 14.4 - and no matter what I do Remote Access fails to connect and tells me to make sure nothing else is using the modem and that the Modem, Appletalk, and TCP/IP controls are set right. There is no FAX software installed on the machines, Appletalk is turned off, and TCP/IP is set to use PPP. But no matter what I try I've been unable to get it to work or to tell me anything more useful.
One machine is running 8.5.1. The other was originally running 8.1 and I tried wiping the disk and installing MacOS 8.6 from scratch, since there was kind of a hodge podge of system files and 8.6 includes a modem script for the GV 19.2. But still no joy - same behavior. I got the machines at different times with somewhat unknown histories, but both were in excellent shape. One was a business machine that I think would have been repaired if the internal modem had gone bad. With it failing the same through all my gyrations I have to think there's something I'm missing, like I need some missing SYS file or something. If only RA would tell me more about what exactly failed... Any ideas? Thanks, Jim ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net! A listserv for users and fans of Mac subportables.
