Hi. I am trying to connect a vanilla CD-ROM drive (Toshiba XM-3401) to a 2400c and to a 540c, and am having no luck. Well, actually, I am having just fine luck, when I look at the System Profiler (the device is detected, with the proper SCSI ID), but not when I look at the desktop: apparently, I cannot mount a CD in the mac's file system (7.6.1 and 8.0). Is there a work-around for this? I can't really believe that Apple was so perverse as to cripple the SCSI controller to be able to only handle "Apple-approved" SCSI devices--were they?
