You'll probably need to install the Apple Telecom Software to get the modem 
working. You should have an Express Modem cpl (or it's Global Village 
equivalent) in the control panels.

PPP is the protocol, by the way, not the control panel. You won't get the 
PPP cpl unless you install Open Transport/PPP. Which might not be a bad 
idea all together.
