I received a query from Japanese 2400 users on 2400 battery replacements as
many are nearing "end of service life". I have an idea that there might be a
chance to address this more broadly (in much greater numbers), possibly
together (as a bundle option) with the proposed 2400 G3 upgrade program.

The questions I have are:
--the minimum cost to do a new replacement battery, since the controller
board is redesigned, rather than a rebuild
--again, revisiting the possibility to provide a DIY rebuild kit,
considering customs and long shipping distances from Japan
--the extra cost of new housings
--the extra cost of the injection molds for new housings
--the minimum number necessary to do the molds for new battery housings
--whether you/they/someone want to take over responsibility for rebuilding
Japanese batteries.

In order for me to consider this avenue seriously, RDX will have to identify
him/herself, either to the list, or to me directly offlist. I need name,
address, phone number. I'll also need more detailed specs/description of
below. Alternatively, should RDX wish to remain anonymous, he/she can first
cover him/herself by prior commercial arrangements and pass me the
coordinates of the candidate battery company so that a reasonable minimum
number, costs and a serious proposal can be investigated.

Subject: [Duo2400] Beating the dead horse... $129 *NEW* 2400 battery
Date: Sat, 23 Mar 2002 17:59:49 +0800

I need a minimum order of 100, or the OEM factory won't produce them, I got
5 orders so far.

The battery cost $129
Details are
* Redesigned controller board
* High capacity Li-Ion cells, 6X 2100mAh
* Longer run time, 20% to 30% longer than Apple original
* 500 charge/discharge cycles
* No DOA guaranty
* 90 days warranty

* Housing/case not included, you will need to rip open your old battery and
replace everything, it's not too hard if you can repair your AC adapter.
