Just thought I'd start an useless but humorous thread. I just picked up a
Duo Dock from an used store with a Duo "stuck" in it. Only $25 but from my
examination it seems the last person was a technician who had no idea how to
handle a Duo Dock.

First up, when I plugged it in, there was nothing. Not even a tick so I had
to open the Dock. Since the Duo was still in, it was hard but I was able to
pop the catch out using long flat screwdrivers. Bonehead #1: the power
supply was not connected to the mainboard. Bonehead #2 a detailed repair
note was still taped to the mainboard complete with owner's full address and
credit card information. It was dated 1997 so I doubt the CC info's valid
anymore. I guess the technician forgot it's darneed near impossible to open
the Dock with the Duo present.

Ok I plug in the power supply but the eject wouldn't work. The motor does
grind so I had to manually release the docking clamp. Pushing down on the
metal clamp by the spring worked. I then took the whole assembly out and
found only 3 of the 4 screws present so I guess someone tried to remove it
and lost a screw in the process. :p

I took the metal plate off of the bottom and found a little black plastic
piece that held the large gear's shaft in place cracked. Looks like someone
tried to force the Duo out by pulling and broke the eject mechansim in the
process. OK I replaced that with a spare I got when my last Dock died. So
this is what i got:
A Duo Dock (original) with VRAM and FPU upgrade and (lucky me) 230MB HD
installed with the hard to find SCSI cable.
A Duo 280c in an OK working shape with 500MB HD and no RAM. It doesn't
power from the battery though.

Another case, involving a PPC 9600. My friend had the screwdriver but
couldn't figure out how to open the case. A push of a large button, a flip
of 2 levers, and 5 seconds later the case's fully open.

Anyone else find something that signal a clueless technician or owner?
