Do you have an external hard drive with a known good software on it that you could boot from? I had to do this with the 2300. What you have to do is get a known good drive. Disconnect the internal drive. Set the startup disk to the new drive. Reconnect the internal drive. Then fix the internal drive. Yes make sure that you shut down every time you make a hardware connection/disconnection or you run the risk of frying something (not that I haven't done it and gotten away with it - but it's not highly recommended) .
