Sure, if it's defective. Same thing happened to me once with an Apple 
battery for the Wallstreet model. (And they wouldn't exchange it.)

I believe Jeremy Kezer [www.kezer.net] wrote a program which will totally 
discharge NiCad batteries. Can't recall the name offhand tho.
