Following MWNY, I took further contact on the captioned matter. They are confident that there is sufficient market to justify undertaking the project. The counterpart confirmed that the technical experts are now finally really looking into the matter to determine the feasibility of adapting Sidewinder and Sahara G3 CPUs at 600 mhz. Since the circuitry is essentially completely different (not pin compatible with earlier designs), there are translation routines that have to be developed as part of the engineering effort to make a new daughtercard fit on the 2400 MB. If it is determined that this will be a one to two month effort, then the project will be a go. However, if the engineering effort will take substantially longer than the profitability will be lost. We also discussed the speed issue--of possibly going to 700 mhz (or higher). Obviously heat dissipation will be the major constraint so that will be determined after the preceding issue has been resolved. So, interested parties keep your fingers crossed that engineering will be affordable. I'll try to update this info in about 6-8 weeks, or whenever there is further news, but will not reply to list queries. Sidney Ho ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net!
