To my knowledge, the slots don't show up any differently in Apple System
Profiler. I don't know of any method other than putting in a Cardbus card
and seeing if the system still works (before I Cardbus-enabled mine, a
MacAlly USB card caused the system to crash, hang, or slow down, and
often wouldn't mount at all). Note that even with a Cardbus-enabled
machine, Mac OS 9.x will still freeze on the "Welcome To Mac OS" screen
if the card is in during startup.

I don't know what kind of Cardbus card you wanted to use, but if you
wanted a FireWire card, Other World Computing (http://www.macsales.com)
has an IBM model that I use for only $30, which might be less annoying a
more expensive card if it doesn't work. I'd guess if you have a 2400c/180
that you probably don't have Cardbus enabled already; I've only heard one
or two accounts of people whose machines "just worked."

Ivan.
