Hello all,
I've been working on and off for a few weeks now on a DOA 2400c that
I picked up at a surplus auction.
It came to me in unknown condition, and not unexpectedly showed me
the Green Light of Death and the horrible click/click on resetting
the power manager.
I've managed to get it to boot once or twice, after disassembly,
removal of (lightly corroded) PRAM battery, and reassembly. I've
also replaced the internal HD with a known-good 3GB one. I've now
had it apart and back together several times, and feel pretty
comfortable working inside. [Though I will freely admit that the
Pismo designers made one heckuva leap in accessibility!]
Anyway, last night I installed a new PRAM battery, which as an aside
must be made of gold for what it cost, and the new hard drive. The
first power-on, which happened as soon as I plugged in the adapter,
resulted in that _horrible_ glass-breaking sound. I forced a
restart, control-option-p-r, and it booted right up in System 8.1! I
then reinstalled the 32 MB Ram card and played a little with it.
What a beautiful little display and machine. So, I tried a few
restarts, etc, with good luck, plugged in the battery and it showed
that it was charging. Ah, sweet success.
THEN, I shut it down to allow it to charge (or try to charge) the battery.
Now, as you might expect, I'm back at GLOD/click. No response from
power key on built-in or external keyboard.
Could there be a clue here, in that when I plug in the adaptor, it
starts right up, without having to hit a key?
Anyway, I would welcome any thoughts on this, I've invested a lot of
energy and a little bit of money into it, and would like to get it
running even if just to sell it, or to use it as a backup if/when I
can afford to bump my Pismo to G4.
Thanks all,
Joel
