A certain kind of cable will turn the 280 and just about any Powerbooks with
SCSI hard drive into an external SCSI drive. You will need a SCSI minidock
or dock with SCSI port. And then you will need a special cable or an
adapter. The one I have is just like the one pictured at this auction
(http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2063024232) except mine
has a switch for selecting Disk mode and standard mode. Most of the SCSI
cables and adapters are for hooking SCSI drives to the Powerbook and it's
not what you need.
