Randy, Sidney Ho's recent post targets the CPU card in most cases:

I saw a bunch of GLOD problems on list. No time these days BUT...

IMO most GLODs are caused by faulty daughter CPU cards. These cause various
symptoms like clicks, alternately N(no)LOD, partial boots, freezes, running
for a while, etc. If it ever powers up it's not the I/O board, period.

Some years back I bought a box of dismantled 2400s (everything down to the
last screw) because of bad I/O boards, put it all together, tested
everything--and it all worked.

Non-overclocked MBs also seem not to fail, unless SCSI or the power jack are
mishandled. It's the CPU that puts out by far the most heat and fails by far
the most often.

Symptoms:

GLOD alternately goes on and off with each reset button press.

When GLOD goes off the speaker clicks twice.

Leaving PRAM and power disconnected for extended periods of time does not
bring it back.

Diassembly and reassembly brough it back to life for about five minutes.

Pressing reset button for 45+ seconds without power then reconnectiong
power does not bring it back, same for pressing reset 45+ seconds with AC
connected.

Connecting AC without pressing power on or reset button causes bottom of
2400c to get warm at the location of the processor.

Any hints from this as to whether it's the power board or processor board?
Anyone know which components on the boards are responsible for power
switching for on and off?

Thanks,

Randy
