Hi All,
I really enjoy reading all the posts every day, and often glean useful
tidbits from each post. I have a question and a problem that maybe someone
can help me with. << I'm typing this e-mail from my Original Powerbook 180
>>, as my Powerbook Duo 230 has recently died. I have worked on various Macs and
PowerBook's through the years, and was given an older Apple Service Source
CD by an Apple Dealer a few years ago.
My Duo has been suffering from a clicking hard drive for sometime, but
I've been putting off replacing it with a SCSI 500 meg I have on a shelf. A
few weeks ago I opened the Duo up and replaced the Clock battery, and as
well replace the Revision 'A' keyboard (sticky keys) with a Revision 'F'
one. After the surgery, everything worked great; hey I use the Duo as my
Road Warrior (its light-weight). Then yesterday the Duo would not startup,
not with the A/C adapter plugged in or with a fully charged battery (I use
the Duo-dual Battery charger that plugs into the side of the A/C adapter).
Is it that the Hard Drive finally died? The A/C plug in the back of the Duo
is not loose. Has anyone had this happen? What are my options- it must be
easy to fix- should I replace the hard drive now to fix this problem?
The second thing: Is there a internet link that has Mac OS Enablers for
Mac OS 7.1? I have Mac OS 7.1 on the Powerbook Duo 230 which only is 1200K
for the System folder, and want to put it on the Powerbook 180 as well. I
have the Mac OS 7.1 Install disks but don't have the Enablers. Anybody have
link to a site that can provide this?
Any help on these two items would be great, as I'm dead set against
going to a PC- Todd
