The 4200 RPM drive that is described in this article should be no problem forhttp://www.storage.ibm.com/hdd/press/20021106.htmWould the 2400 be able to handle such a drive? Power requirements? Heat?
the 2400.
The faster drives are still in R&D......
"If there were any question about IBM's desire to be a technology leader, one needs only to read its 80GN (mobile hard disk drive) announcement. The company not only announced the new 4200rpm, 40GB/platter 80GN, but also declared that it would be launching a 40GB/platter, 5400rpm mobile-class drive, as well as the industry's first ever 7200rpm mobile HDD during the first quarter of 2003.
Earlier this year, IBM went against the trend and skipped 30GB per platter in an effort to save R&D dollars, as well as to beat the competition to 40GB per platter, hedging its bets that the 30GB capacity ladder would be minimal. So far, this strategy seems to have paid off."
