I just saw a 2400 screen for action on eBay.

Hi all--

I work on a G4 desktop, but I have a 2400 for Quicken and the like so
that I can keep the IRS happy by not using my office computer for
personal stuff. I recently noticed that the screen was pretty dark -- not
anywhere near black, I can see the desktop and even read menus and window
listings, but it's as though it dimmed itself and it won't undim.

So I'm wondering if this means the backlight bulb is dead, or what else
might be going on. I'm pretty good at software troubleshooting, but
hardware stuff beyond RAM or hard drive installation is a little trickier
than I want to get into. I tried resetting the PRAM to no effect and am
not sure what to do next.

If I can figure out what the problem is, I can decide whether to get the
thing fixed or eBay it, but I'm nervous about sending it off to be
repaired without being pretty confident that the repair cost will fall
within the amount I'm willing to spend on this secondary machine.

I'd really appreciate any thoughts or advice -- TIA!

Kate
I have a feeling that the inverter board may have gone. That provides the
necessary 'juice' to the backlight, and is more likely to fail than a
backlight itself (and much cheaper to replace!). It does mean, on the 2400,
that the screen has to be pulled apart to replace the board. :-(
