Nope. I'm an old hand at things Mac. I'd already lined up and executed all the usual (as well as some unusual) suspects before I posted the question. This really has to be something peculiar to the UltraDock, as the exact same setup works with an Apple MiniDock and a SCSI Microdock. Also, another SCSI drive (a Syquest 230 cartridge drive) on the chain works just fine, but no utility even sees the CD drive. That's what's so bizarre.
