Hi listers,

I recently received two 2400c laptops in a trade; both have problems.

#1
Once chimes & starts running the hard drive when powered, but the LCD screen
does not come on. I tried switching LCDs with another one that I know works,
but the result is the same. Also, the reset switch does not restart the
laptop. I also switched the swtich from a known working 2400c.

Other than some motherboard problem, could the LCD not working be from some
other source?

Did you try an external monitor ? Also, shine a light on the LCD while attached, maybe the backlight power is out and the rest is fine.

A guess at this point would be the video chipset or VRAM chips.

#2
The other 2400c does not do the startup chime when powered, ever, but when
powered it starts up the hard drive and the LCD comes on. But only a white
screen is displayed, and I never see a cursor. Tried using an external source
for the OS, but no change.

I am appreciative in advance of any help,

Hmmm... that sounds similar to several 3400 I had which had blown FETs. Inspect the boards for small 8 pins square units (~0.75x0.75 cm chips) for bulges or distortions. Also try swapping power and CPU boards to see if swaps make the difference.
