Ethernet offers a good compromise for non-cardbus 2400's. Farallon do a PCMCIA card that does the trick and works perfectly on my Comet to transfer info to an iBook 800MHz. It's fairly cheap to get them on eBay and iLovemacs, a company here in England stocks them as standard.
