Hi, list
My faithful 280c has suddenly gone wonky. When I boot it up, I get
the opening chimes, followed immediately by a loud
.....TICK-TICK-TICK.........TOCK-TOCK-TOCK..........TICK-TICK-TICK.........
that sounds as though it's coming from the speaker. Then,
absolutely nothing. No light on the screen, or anything.
Any suggestions?

The Classic Click of Death. THe power supply in the dock needs two
capacitors replaced. C26 and C28 if I recall correctly. There are
instructions on the net, but I dont recal off hand.

the trouble is, I don't have a dock. This is just the laptop.

Hmm..... try wiggling the AC adapter near where it plugs into the
Duo. You may have a loose AC socket which can make a ticking sound
as it makes poor contact.
If not that, then I think you might need a new mobo. I had a 2300
with a similar problem I could not fix.
