I was exploring something like that using a Linksys device, but it required more current than ADB could provide. ADB cranks out 500 mA. The Linksys I was using needed twice that.

These pocket/travel wifi AP/router/client-device thingies are a cool way
to add wifi to older ethernet-equipped Macs. It'd be an interesting
alternative to a cardcage/PCcard on a PB500 if there was a way to power
it externally,. Well, of course, an AAUI adapter is a tad bulky too. Hmm,
maybe stuff the two items into the lefthand bay . . .
