DUDE, that did it. Hot damn, thanks!!

I figured since it did recognize the G3, it was all set...but I
downloaded all three things under the NuPowr section on this page:
http://newertech.com/techdownloads and installed 'em (in the process
verifying that the floppy works), and lo and behold, no cache error
message now. Wheee!

It's because you need to install the software for the G3 card.  The
L2 cache structure of the new processor isn't active because the
software isn't installed, and the operating system thinks it's
failed.  Just download the drivers, install, and you're good.
